Go to www.caprineclassic.ca for info on the biggest all breed goat show in Canada! The show is back again for a SECOND year! Don't miss it!!Essandea NewsAug 2007 We had a banner BUCK year! Unfortunately we were hoping for does. Regardless, we did have a few standouts with both the bucks and the does. Due to the dry summer, lack of pasture and concern of the quantity and quality of hay available come winter, we cut our herd right back to 'bare bones'. As hard as cutting animals out of the herd is, we hope that this step will improve the overall quality of our herd ten fold. Time will tell. We are going to try our hand at AI again this year. June 2006 Essandea Farm now has a closed herd. We have what we believe to be an adequate genetic base to keep us busy for a few years. Our doe genetics range from a few of Bethany Hills (ON) foundation does ( Hays International (1995)), Mellow Mornings (BC) stock, Sugarfield Farm (ON), to Ram H (AB). We also have a sample from the now dispersed Midriver and Arjen herds (AB) - these does are extremely powerful and we are expecting exceptional replacement stock from them. Going further back genetically, we have strong lines from the Venter (444/474), Nama (493), Van Zyl (649), Schoeman (667), Burger (762), a touch of Maritz (256) and Nell (106) in our AI buck Lencho who we will use to outcross. The first Ram H Tobago kids hit the ground in the first week of June. We have a lions share of bucks to offer so check out our for sale page if you are in need of a herdsire. We also have several bucks available from the does purchased from Bethany Hills. Bucks are 100% Pure Boer but cannot be registered. These bucks will be sold as commercial stock for commercial prices. If you want the quality but don't need the papers check out these boys. As we get does available for sale we will be adding them to the for sale page.
Jan 2006 New Start: Check out the sale page for our final percentage does available for sale. It is now the end of January and winter kidding is complete. We are very pleased to announce that we have 3 Ringo doe kids to add to our replacement doe line up, and one very nice buck. We have several percentage doe kids and 2 very nice commercial bucklings from Ringo available for sale. Ram H Tobago made the trip from Alberta with 4 does mid- January. We are thrilled with this group of animals and we are anticipating a late spring kidding come May. If you are looking for purebred replacement stock please check back in May to see what is born and available.
Update: We recently brought Sugarfield Kenya home. We had use of this great buck when we started out and only realised the quality of kids he produced once he was sent home. When we found out that Kenya was available for sale we jumped at the chance. Check him out on the herd sire page. Our final doe purchases have been made and we have now closed our herd. We brought home Bethany Hills Nala (ET) she is an old girl but she has excellent though hard to find genetics in Canada - If we can get at least one more kidding out of her we will be very pleased. Check out our does page for pictures of her and her pedigree. We also brought home Nala's 2005 daughter. Her sire is Alean-Rose Kariba 629G. She is still young but we believe she will be a wonderful foundation doe for us. While we were looking at the Bethany Hills stock I was introduced to Arjen 91L. I have NEVER seen such a powerful doe - not in pictures or in person. As soon as I saw her I knew I would not be leaving that farm without her. See her picture and pedigree on the Does page.
Jan 2006 Our LossIt is with sadness that we announce the untimely demise of our buck Ram H Ringo (Nov. 2005). We are anxiously anticipating the arrival of Ringo's kids. We will be withholding a buck kid from either Ky-Anne or Tia to replace him, as well as any doe kids by these does. Our Gain When the shock of the death of Ringo had passed I started looking for a replacement. We are proud to announce the newest Essandea herdsire - Ram H Tobago. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Tobago as well as 4 more Ram H does in January. We will post pictures as soon as he arrives with his girls. Our Future With this turn of events, our breeding goals have been placed in high gear. We, at Essandea Farm have decided to sell our percentage does. From this point on, we will focus on breeding quality Purebred Boers from established lines. We will have a few select kids, Purebred bucks and does, for sale every year. We also hope to begin showing in 2006. Please check back soon for updates on the new stock and kids are due any day!
